Watch the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in Yorkville

"You're all a bunch of brave-hearted souls to be out here in this chilling weather," said Mayor Gary Golinski to the assembled crowd.

The holiday season started in Yorkville Saturday evening with the City's annual tree lighting ceremony at Riverfront Park.

"You’re all a bunch of brave-hearted souls to be out here in this chilling weather," Mayor Gary Golinski addressed the residents who had bundled up to enjoy the festivities "Under the Stars" and stay for the tree-lighting ceremony.

The temperature read it was 20 degrees plus wind chill at the time of the ceremony.

The festivities at the park started at 1 p.m. when children could "ice skate", sit on Santa's lap and other activities.

Before the tree lighting ceremony, which took place a little after 6 p.m., an impromptu group of carolers invited the gathered audience to sing along and warm them up.

"My toes, I can barely feel them," laughed Golinski once he was in position to light the tree, and quickly invited a child to join him in the countdown.

He thanked everyone for attending the ceremony and invited everyone to stay for fireworks over the Fox River.
