Aldermen approved Ken Koch's appointment and he was sworn into office at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
Some aldermen said they were initially hesitant about Mayor Gary Golinski’s candidate recommendation to fill the vacancy left after the resignation of Ward 1 Alderman George Gilson Jr. But after talking to longtime Yorkville Park Board president Ken Koch, they changed their minds. Aldermen approved his appointment and Koch was sworn into office at Tuesday’s City Council meeting. The mayor is responsible for appointing the new alderman with the advice and consent of the rest of the City Council. Golinski said he received a handful of applications for the seat. “I really thought Ken was a good fit for the City Council,” he said. Ward 2 Alderman Larry Kot agreed. “I think he’s an excellent choice,” he said. Koch began his tenure on the Park …

The longtime Park Board president will fill the vacancy left after the resignation of Ward 1 Alderman George Gilson Jr.
After more than a decade serving the Yorkville Park Board, Ken Koch has decided to step down. But he’s not leaving the public sector. Instead, Koch said he is venturing down a different path of service. Tonight, he will likely be named to the Yorkville City Council to fill the seat of Ward 1 Alderman George Gilson Jr., who resigned due to a job promotion that involves moving to Iowa. “I felt that I have been blessed with my Park Board years and truly enjoy public service,” Koch said. “I learned a lot and met a lot of quality people in the process. With my current experience with staff and City Council, I felt the timing was appropriate at this time.” The mayor is responsible for appointing the new alderman with the advice and consent of …

Ward 1 Alderman Candidate Carlo Colosimo said he accidentally implied that the bike trail referendum would cost $300 a year in property taxes.
Alderman candidate Carlo Colosimo acknowledged he accidentally sent a questionnaire with the wrong figure for the bike trails referendum to about 200 households in Ward 1. The questionnaire was included with campaign materials Colosimo had planned to send to about 800 households with residents who voted in recent municipal elections. Colosimo said he removed the questionnaires from the remaining packets after Corey Johnson, a proponent of the bike trails referendum, brought the error to his attention Tuesday evening. “I obviously screwed up,” Colosimo said Wednesday afternoon. “I just misprinted it.” The question asked: Are you willing to add $300 per year (x 20 years) to your property taxes to include bike trails during our road …

Yorkville Patch asked all the candidates in contested city races the same four questions. Here are Carlo Colosimo's answers in the race for Ward 1 alderman.
With election season in full swing, Yorkville Patch wanted to give readers a clear view of how local candidates compared on recent issues that surfaced before the City Council. Below are the answers from Carlo Colosimo, who is running against Robert Allen for alderman in Ward 1. Allen's answers can be found here. Come back tomorrow to see how the Ward 2 alderman candidates answered the same questions. • Would you have voted to place a binding bike trails referendum on the April 5 ballot? Why? I would have voted against placing the binding referendum on the ballot. A referendum was just on the ballot and failed. Before the previous referendum the mayor and supporters of the trails said that we "will leave it up to the voters." The …

I would have voted to put the binding bike trails referendum on the ballot. Under the state's bike trails offer, we get $5 of infrastructure for every $1 we spend. This is a "no-brainer." It is just a matter of time before someone falls victim …
