A section of Rosenwinkel Drive will be renamed to Waterpark Way.
Does the road Waterpark Way in Yorkville ring any bells? It soon will once a section of Rosenwinkel Street adjacent to Raging Waves Waterpark is renamed. City administrator Bart Olson said the waterpark approached the city about the street name change after the success of Boombah Boulevard. “The Mayor seemed to think it was a good idea,” said Olson at the Economic Development Committee meeting last week. In staff documents Olson said the renaming would have no adverse impacts on any surrounding businesses or residents. “We are keeping the section of Rosenwinkel Drive within the Bristol Bay subdivision as is,” said Olson. Raging Waves itself is the only established business along the renamed section of roadway, although their mailing …

Several business leaders are urging aldermen to continue the city’s relationship with the bureau.
While Yorkville aldermen have still not decided whether to renew the city's agreement with the Aurora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, several business leaders are urging them to do just that. “I am very for the Aurora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and one of the reasons is because we are receiving a benefit from them,” Daryl Wiese of the Hampton Inn said at Tuesday’s board meeting. He said he has concerns with the village considering a smaller, local firm to help promote Yorkville tourism. Wiese said about 98 percent of his business comes from outside of Yorkville. “You have to advertise in other areas to bring people into the area,” he said. Raging Waves owner Randy Witt said the bureau’s reach is vital for an attraction like …

Yorkville alderman Diane Teeling made good on her promise Monday to ride the Cowabunga zip line at Raging Waves after reaching her $1,000 fundraising goal for the Kennedy Road bike trail.
Alderman Diane Teeling had $1,000 in her Push for the Path fundraising account Thursday - a week after the July 5 deadline - but she honored her pledge to ride the Cowabunga zip line at Raging Waves anyway. As she was taking the short "flight school" training Monday morning, Push for the Path supporters had raised $101,700.66 toward the goal of $357,000, which is the city’s 20 percent share of the Kennedy Road bike trail's cost. The 2.72 miles of trail will run along Kennedy Road from Route 47 to Mill Road. The Power of One fundraising effort challenged supporters to raise $1,000 by July 5, either individually or with a small team. Those donations are trickling in, but the 100 teams had collected $92,671.89 as of Monday morning. Related …

They recited their wedding vows in front of 'The Boomerang' ride Saturday at Yorkville's water park.
Samantha Kolar wore a bikini underneath her traditional wedding dress and veil Saturday so she and her better half could properly take the plunge as the first couple to get married at Raging Waves water park. Kolar, 25, and Andy Lee, 34, both of Plano, are season pass holders and enjoy bringing their family to Raging Waves. It seemed a natural fit to this family-oriented couple to celebrate their wedding at the water park on Yorkville's north side. “We wanted a fun and unconventional wedding that was a true celebration. We wanted it to be a blast and fun for our kids,” Lee said. Lee has three children from a prior marriage: Elena (10), Angelina (8) and Gavin (7). Kolar and Lee together have Andrew (4), Matthew (2) and Juno (1 ½). Lee said …

Has Raging Waves ever completed the punchlist for at least the roadway area of their development? If not, maybe some leverage could be applied before re-naming it for them. Bill Barkley   more ›
