Drugs and Disassembled Gun Found at High School During Routine Sweep
Police dogs found marijuana, as well as a disassembled hunting gun in the school parking lot Thursday as part of a regular safety drill.
Two Yorkville High School students were referred to prosecutors after a routine canine sweep of the school and parking lot Thursday, Principal Ron Kiesewetter said. The search revealed marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and tobacco, Kiesewetter said. Most situations were handled with school consequences, although the two most serious cases were referred to the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office, he said. The sweep did not involve the Freshman Academy. Authorities also found a disassembled hunting gun in a vehicle, he said. Officials do not believe the student posed a threat to the school or other students, but the weapon—even disassembled and in a case—should not have been on school grounds, he said.
