Annual Yorkville Egg Hunt Set for Friday Night

Evenings festivities begin at 5 p.m. at Beecher Community Park egg hunt set for 8 p.m.

Who’s ready for an “eggcellent” time at the annual Halloween Egg Hunt? This year the tradition is set for Friday night at 8 p.m. The egg hunt, for children 10 and under, is part of an overall community spooktacular at Beecher Community Park, 908 Game Farm Road, from 5-9 p.m. In addition to the egg hunt there will be hayrides, pumpkin decorating (1 per family), pizza slices from Rosati’s (small fee), the "HOWL"ween pet contest and more. Revelers are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes and bring a flashlight and a basket for the eggs. Children are allowed to find up to 10 eggs each. 5 - 7:45 p.m. 5:30-6 p.m. 6-7 p.m. 6:30-7 p.m. 7-7:45 p.m. 8 p.m.

Good Weather Could Mean Good Attendance at Hometown Days

Don't expect a weak economy to lower attendance at Yorkville's annual end-of-summer festival.

For Timothy Evans, there's no secret involved that accounts for the annual success of Yorkville's annual Hometown Days festival. "It's a great family event for the community," said Evans, superintendent of recreation for the United City of Yorkville Parks and Recreation Department. "It gives families an opportunity to come out and enjoy some quality time together in a safe, fun environment." It's the same formula the festival has followed for its 19-year existence. And it's one that it will mimic again this year. The annual festival runs from Sept. 1 through Sept. 4 at Yorkville's Beecher Community Park. The event will kick off with Family Fun Night on Sept. 1. This night features a $1-per-ride carnival special running from 5 until 9 p.m. …

Mayor Gary Golinski said the City Council will be collecting tips at the beer tent Friday night for the Kendall County Meals on Wheels program. It's a friendly competition with the Park Board; all the tips collected that evening will go to the charity selected by the group (Park Board or City Council) that collects the most tips.   more ›
