52 teams are competing to advance to the World Championship in St. Louis.

The Yorkville High School Robotics Team will compete at First Robotics Competition Thursday to Saturday of this week at the UIC Pavilion. This year, 52 teams are competing to advance to the World Championship in St. Louis. The Robotics Team helps students build skills in various areas that will benefit them far beyond the upcoming competition. The 50 team members are sub-divided into teams within the team and focus on the following areas: website development, programming, communication, building and construction, CAD/Solidworks usage, driving and spirit. Juniors or seniors on a varsity team were eligible for the award.
Yorkville High School winter athletes received the NIBig 12 Academic All Conference Award, according to Yorkville School District 115. To receive this honor, students must be a junior or senior on a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average. The following students received the award: Cheerleading: Shannon Kicher, Devanie Tucker & Nicole Peck Dance Team: Hailey Trudo & Sydney Batchelor Boy's Basketball: Josh Gengler & Nicholas Firrantello Wrestling: Austin Wolf Girl's Basketball: Mackenzie Bollinger, Brittany Straznickas, Courtney Bass, Rachael Owens & Lindsey Schlichting. Performances and art from district students will be featured.
On March 16, Yorkville District 115 will host its annual Fine Arts Festival, featuring student artwork and musical performances. The festival will be held at Yorkville Middle School, 920 Prairie Crossing Drive in Yorkville from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The event, which boasts performances and exhibits from students grades 5-12, demonstrates the district commitment to student achievement in the arts. Visitors to the festival will be treated to performances by various band and orchestra groups, choirs and be permitted to view artwork from students. In addition, the festival will feature an ice cream fundraising featuring student-made ceramic bowls and artwork benefitting the Kendall County Food Pantry from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Concessions will be …
Briana Stuepfert will run track for the Bears next season.
Yorkville High School's Briana Stuepfert will run track next year for the Central Arkansas University Bears. Stuepfert committed to the Conway, Arkansas-based university, according to a press release from the NCSA Athletic Recruiting Network. The NCSA, an agency that provides proactive assistance for high school athletes looking at the collegiate level, called the committment a foundation for Stuepfert's "next 40 years." "Not only did Briana have the tools she needed for the recruiting process, NCSA also educated her on the steps she needed to take to achieve her goal," the release said. Artwork is on exhibit until Feb. 28.
A Yorkville artist is one of five artists featured in the Lewis University President's Fifth Annual Art Show. Justin Polzin, a computer graphic design major at the Romeoville-based university, submitted artwork for the show, including "The Assassin," featured on here. Polzin is a 2012 graduate of Yorkville High School. The gallery featuring Polzin's art recently opened. The new art gallery is part of a major addition to the Oremus Fine Arts Center which includes a new studio Theatre and extensive renovations to the entire building, according to a news release. The works are being featured until Feb. 28.
Festival set for March 16 at Yorkville Middle School.
Two CUSD 115 bands will premiere two brand new works for concert band from composer Tm Corpus during the district's Fine Arts Festival set for March 16. The eigth-grade band from Yorkville Middle School and the Yorkville High School Wind Ensemble Band will perform "The Lost City," a musical piece about the mythical city of Atlantis and "From Many, One," a piece that explores the individuality of different instruments and the sound of the concert band. The pieces will be premiered at 1:45 p.m. in the Yorkville Middle School on March 16. Corpus will be in residence at the schools during March to work with the bands on the musical pieces. Three Yorkville High School wrestlers will compete in the state tournament.
Brackets are set for the Individual Class AA State Wrestling Tournament in Champaign later this week. Three Yorville High School wrestlers qualified for the tournament last week after the IHSA AA Rochelle Sectional. Wrestlers Gunnar Hjorth, Tyler Wilkinson and Bobby Schillinger will compete in the Feb. 14-16 tournament. This past weekend Wilkinson placed first in the 160 pound division and Schillinger placed first in the 182 pound division. Hjorth finished third in the 152 pound division. Individual Class AA State Wrestling Tournament set for Feb. 14-16 in Champaign.
Three Yorkville High School wrestlers qualified for the Individual Class AA State Wrestling Tournament in Champaign later this week. Wrestlers Gunnar Hjorth, Tyler Wilkinson and Bobby Schillinger will compete in the Feb. 14-16 tournament. Wilkinson placed first in the 160 pound division and Schillinger placed first in the 182 pound division. Hjorth finished third in the 152 pound division. Results from the IHSA AA Rochelle Sectional can be found here. Last week Yorkville racked up 172.5 team points to finish first in the IHSA Pontiac Regional Tournament.
