Yorkville High School is hosting its second annual SMA charity garage sale to help those, including a fellow student and a teacher's child, who have been diagnosed with SMA of which there is no known cure.
Yorkville High School is hosting its second annual "Name Your Price" charity garage sale to benefit families affected by Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). SMA is a Motor Neuron Disease which causes progressive weakness of muscle that are used for walking, moving, breathing, and neck/head control. Eventually both swallowing and breathing are affected by this disease. Currently, there is no treatment or cure. Yorkville High School is stepping up to raise money for awareness and research funding for SMA. The school itself has affected individuals in their community - student Theresa Eberhardt has Type 1 SMA and Janny Tercs, the son of YHS teacher Aimee Tercs has Type 2. Following their victory at SuperState, the YHS Wind Ensemble will play at the Orchestra Hall in Chicago on May 27.
The Yorkville High School Wind Ensemble has hit a high note. The band, directed by Victor Anderson, recently performed at the prestigious Illinois SuperState Concert Band Festival and came away with the top honor of "Honor Band.” Manhattan Concert Productions, which specializes in group travel and concerts at great venues, has invited the YHS Wind Ensemble to play on Memorial Day at the Orchestra Hall in Chicago after seeing their performace at SuperState. “This is an amazing opportunity,” said Anderson in a letter to students and parents. Normally the hall, which is where the Chicago Symphony Orchestra plays, costs $10,000 per hour to rent. Prom Prom for Yorkville High School will be on Saturday, May 4 at 6 p.m. at Gaslight Manor in Aurora. Need a fancy ride to arrive in style? Check out Total Image Limousine of Yorkville. Graduation Graduation will take place on Sunday, May 19 at 1 p.m. at Yorkville High School. All graduating students will be given 5 tickets on rehearsal day. If a student requires more tickets they may obtain them from other students. Last Day of School The last full day of school for Yorkville 115 is Friday, May 24. Then it's off to summer!

Spring choir concert and the Madrigal singers concert will be performed in the first few days of May.
Feeling so happy about this weather you could sing? By all means, please do so, but also feel free to check out the upcoming spring choir concerts put on by Yorkville High School students. The YHS Spring Choir Concert is set for Thursday, May 2 at the Yorkville Middle School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Then, on May 10 and 11 at 7 p.m. you can hear the YHS Madrigal Singers at the Yorkville High School cafeteria. Tickets for this concerts can be purchased for $8 at the door and the performance will feature Broadway music plus dessert for attendees.

“Our robotics organization is more than a club, they are family, when one hurts we all hurt,” said YHS teacher and Robotics Team Advisor, Dan Cornwall.
The robotics community has come together in a show support for Billy Mahaney's family and to each other. Billy Mahaney, a junior at Yorkville High School, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 8. He was an involved member of Yorkville robotics team, amongst other groups. Visitation for Billy Mahaney will be held on Monday, April 15 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16.
William “Billy” Thomas Mahaney IV, age 16, of Yorkville, IL was called by God to heaven on Monday morning before school at his home in Yorkville. He was born on July 7, 1996 in Aurora, IL the son of William Thomas and Rowena (Fagaragan) Mahaney III. While the Kane County Coroner’s office has not released an official reason for death, it is known that his death was related to natural causes. Billy most likely died in the arms of his Father William Mahaney who was working with Bristol-Kendall Paramedics to revive him at home. He was immediately transported to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora where the Emergency Staff worked frantically to revive Billy for more than an hour with his Mother, Father and family present.
