Share Your Thoughts: What Would You Tell the Family of a Fallen Soldier?

Oswego resident Patricia Gavros asked participants that at an event Tuesday. Now, Patch is asking you.

Oswego resident Patricia Gavros has organized several community projects as part of her personal 52-week challenge for patriotism. On Tuesday, she gave participants at a Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce Woman 2 Woman luncheon a card, pictured above, and asked them to hang it on their refrigerator or share it with their family. "Sometimes when we have to really actually think about something specifically, it's good," Gavros said. "It makes us think and for one moment makes us appreciate where we live." Here are some responses left on the Yorkville Patch Facebook page: Michael Harle: I would say thank you for raising such an unselfish soldier. I am deeply sorry for your loss, the nation will mourn our loss. Dennis Wholey: As a warriors …

River Night Providing Two Bands on Two Nights

Chicago-based cover band will perform in Yorkville on June 22; Classical Blast will perform on June 23.

This year, River Night really isn't just one night. The annual event, which is a major fundraiser for the Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce, will feature 28 Days, a Chicago-based cover band, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. June 22. The event itself will be from 5 to 10 p.m. at Bicentennial Riverfront Park. The Chamber also is bringing Classical Blast, a group of classically trained musicians performing rock, to Yorkville on June 23. The venue depends on the weather: If June 22 is blessed with clear skies, Classical Blast will perform at Rosati's Pizza Pub on June 23. If the skies open and pour rain across Yorkville on June 22, 28 Days will perform at Rosati's Pizza Pub on June 22, and Classical Blast will headline the rescheduled River Night at the …

Save the Date for River Night on June 22

Your local editor got roped into the Chamber event's planning committee, so you can believe me when I say it's going to be fun.

Free family fun. Plus a beer tent. And Chicago-based cover band 28 Days. What's not to love about River Night? The annual event is a major fundraiser for the Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce, so I didn't skip a beat when Chamber member Cory Poris asked me to sit on the planning committee. I can assure you we have some fun things in store for you. The festivities will be from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, June 22 (rain date: June 23) at Bicentennial Riverfront Park. 28 Days will perform from 7:30 to 10 p.m. According to the band's website, they don't do “Heavy Metal” or “Prog Rock” because they know they don't look great in spandex - but they play pretty much everything else: Pop, Rock, Funk, Classic Rock, Country, Techno, Rap, R&B, and Gospel. …

Sending Thank Yous for a Pulse Leads Group Presentation

The leads group associated with the Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce meets each Tuesday.

I recently had the pleasure of learning a little bit more about the PULSE leads group when Yorkville Patch partnered with them for a special presentation on getting the most out of Patch. I talked about the Patch Places business directory, posting an announcement on Patch and posting an event on our event calendar, among other things. I also got to talk a bit with Kris Kearns, who facilitates the PULSE leads group. Here are the points he highlighted: "Being part of a leads group is a great way for a person to share and receive leads for their business, which in returns helps grow each other’s business. This is done through weekly meetings and relationship building. "The Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce PULSE leads group meets at 8:30 a.m…

Yorkville Chamber Honors Members

The Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce issued awards, including the Ambassador of the Year and the Chamber Spirit awards, at its annual dinner Thursday. (Yorkville Patch was awarded New Member of the Year.)

Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce Vice President Jeff Corirossi likened the weak economy to an ancient fire threatening a forest. “We’re facing it together; we must come together," he said at the organization's annual dinner Thursday. "It’s consuming our businesses, as well as most of our precious resources, our customers.” So, much like several people might band together to toss water on a growing fire, local businesses should band together to share ideas, training and contacts, Corirossi said. Thursday's dinner celebrated the chamber's steady membership of 315, its (slight) surplus budget of $120,000, and the contributions its members have made in the past year or so. Mike Pfeiffer of NetComm Business Solutions received the Ambassador …
