Inquest into Death of Father and Son Scheduled for Dec. 13

Jurors will rule on cause of death of Joseph and Wyland Schmitt. Coroner still waiting for toxicology results.

County officials are still waiting for toxicology results from the death of a Yorkville father and son. County Coroner Ken Toftoy said he is expecting the report to be delivered soon. An inquest is scheduled for Dec. 13 to examine the facts presented by police and the autopsy and toxicology reports. The six jurors will determine if the deaths of Joseph R. Schmitt and his four-year-old son Wyland will be ruled as accidental, a suicide, a homicide or a mix of more than one. An inquest is required any time there is an unexplained death, Toftoy said.
