Update: City Crews Clearing Streets in Wake of Tuesday's Snow

Road crews waited on accumulation before beginning plowing and salting the roads around noon.

By 3 p.m. Yorkville residents reported seeing snow plows in their neighborhoods. City Administrator Bart Olson said he expects the streets to be clear in time for tonight's city council meeting at 7 p.m. Earlier Tuesday around noon United City of Yorkville officials reported road crews are waiting on larger accumulation of snow before plowing and salting city streets, according to a post on the city's Facebook page. According to the post city roads at the time were "still relatively clear, with minor snow cover on less traveled roads." The city also said roads were not presalted due to rain. National Weather Service: Yorkville Area Could Get Up to Six Inches of Snow

A winter storm watch is in effect from Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening. Storm could make driving conditions hazardous, NWS warns.

By Shannon Antinori The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for areas of Will and Kendall counties, including Yorkville, effective Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening. Snow — possibly mixed with sleet — is expected to begin Tuesday morning, continuing into the afternoon and tapering to lighter snow Tuesday evening. Snowfall may be heavy at times throughout the day Tuesday, according to the NWS. The National Weather Service predicts 3-6 inches of snow across Kendall County and the Chicagoland area. The NWS is also predicting wind gusts of up to 40 mile per hour. People are encouraged to take precaution while driving due to limited visibility and hazardous road conditions.
