Kidd Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison

Former Oswego man first person convicted in Kendall County for drug-induced homicide.

The former Oswego man convicted of supplying the drugs that killed his girlfriend in March 2010 has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. According to a release from Kendall County State's Attorney Eric Weis, family members of Merrideth Castro were present at Friday's sentencing hearing and provided impact statements to Judge John Barsanti. “The conviction and sentence is one that is necessary to hopefully send a message that illegal drugs are dangerous and can kill. Merrideth Castro would still be alive if Jason Kidd had not cared enough about his girlfriend of several years to n otgo out and buy this lethal drug for both of them to use.”  In addition to his prison sentence, Kidd will serve three years of mandatory supervised release. …

Plainfield Man Gets Prison for Fatal DUI Crash

Mark Shubert was nearly three times over the legal limit when he drove head-on into a car on Ridge Road and killed the passenger.

A Plainfield man with two previous drunken-driving convictions on his record has been sentenced to five years in prison for a DUI accident that killed a Minooka man last year. Mark A. Shubert, 41, pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI and reckless homicide in the Feb. 20, 2010, accident in which he drove his pickup truck into an oncoming lane of Ridge Road and struck a car head-on, according to a media release from the Kendall County state's attorney's office. The driver of the car survived but his passenger, Nicholas K. Frank, was killed. Shubert's blood alcohol content was found to be .223, nearly three times the legal limit. Shubert agreed to plead guilty in order to avoid a trial, with his defense attorney arguing he should be sentenced to …

I'm glad he has prison time but very dissapointed and up set hae we forgotten that this man has taken a young life! In a car or out homicide is homicide. Not to mention he could have caused 2 other deaths with his previous dui. 5 years isn't enough.   more ›
