So far, the Lady Foxes are 4-3 overall and 1-2 during play in the Northern Illinois Big 12 East Conference.
You may recognize several of the names on Yorkville High School girl's basketball roster. As a freshman this past spring, Corrine Rowe helped Yorkville's softball team win a regional title and was an honorable mention all-conference selection. At around the same time, Brittany Straznickas was chosen as the team MVP of the girls soccer team. More recently this fall, Straznickas and senior Jordann Dhuse helped the volleyball team establish a school record for victories in a season. Finally, in early November, Ali Hester finished sixth in the state to help the Lady Foxes win their first cross country state title. After demonstrating their fantastic athletic abilities in cross country, soccer, softball and volleyball, the four have now turned …

Yorkville's varsity girls basketball team honored its seniors in the regular-season finale against Morris.
The new-look lineup was by design. Yorkville girls basketball coach Luke Engelhardt honored his seniors by starting them in a 42-38 overtime loss to Morris on Thursday night. “It was senior night,” Engelhardt said. “I couldn’t be happier for the senior girls. They’ve all put in an incredible amount of effort. They’ve been leaders through this entire season, and I couldn’t be more proud of everything they did this year.” With the pep band making a rare appearance at one of the girls basketball games, four seniors started their first game this season to the drum beat of, “We will rock you.” Seniors Michelle Fabricino, Heather Young, Morgan Harrison and Elizabeth Swe joined regular starter Jenny Taptich to energetically begin the game against…

Morris 42, Yorkville 38. In a rematch between two rivals on Senior Night, Yorkville let an opportunity slip away at the free throw line.
The Hot Read: Yorkville took Morris into overtime but fell short in a 42-38 girls basketball rematch on Thursday night. Yorkville’s seniors started the game on Senior Night and played well defensively in the early going. Neither side scored 4 minutes. The Foxes trailed Morris 17-15 at the half but came back to take a 26-21 lead in the third quarter after a strong scoring run by Jordann Dhuse. However, fouls allowed the Redskins to pull even in the fourth quarter and take the game into overtime at 35-35. Morris then completed its season sweep of the Foxes. The Redskins won the first game 40-33 on Jan. 11. Patch’s MVP: Yorkville’s Jordann Dhuse (15 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal). Dhuse led the Foxes to a 26-21 lead on Morris in the third …

Kaneland 45, Yorkville 39. After more than a week-long layoff, the Foxes were a bit rusty early and went on to drop a heart-breaker to the Knights on Monday night.
The Hot Read: After 4 minutes, Yorkville trailed Kaneland 9-2 in Monday's girls basketball matchup. The Foxes regrouped but couldn't overcome the slow start in a 45-39 setback that came on the heels of more than a week-long layoff. Yorkville increased its defensive pressure in the second quarter, holding the Knights to four points, and pulled within 15-12 at half. A strong third quarter by Yorkville’s Jenny Taptich brought the Foxes within two points of Kaneland, but ultimately missed shots and a string of fouls in the fourth quarter decided the game. Patch’s MVP: Yorkville’s Jenny Taptich (12 points, 3 steals, 1 rebound). A seven-point scoring run by Taptich in the third quarter brought the Foxes within two points of Kaneland. Key stats: …

Jordann Dhuse and her older brother Kyle serve as captains for the Foxes; they've blossomed from backyard warriors to on-court leaders.
Siblings often choose separate interests, but that’s not the case for Jordann and Kyle Dhuse. Both of them chose to play basketball from a young age while attending Cross Lutheran School. Now, they both lead their teams at Yorkville High School. While it may be reasonable to expect competition among the siblings, their mother, Toni Dhuse, says that’s not the case, not now, anyway. “When they were younger, that’s what mattered,” Toni said. “They’re very supportive of each other now.” Support is what has allowed the two to be team captains and starters on their teams, in addition to playing varsity ball early on in their high school years. Jordann, a 5-7 junior point guard, has played on the Yorkville girls varsity team since she was a …

Engelhardt pep talk sparks Foxes in come-from-behind win over LaSalle-Peru on Saturday night.
The Yorkville girls basketball team wasn’t controlling the ball. The first half of the Foxes' game against LaSalle-Peru on Saturday night was riddled with turnovers and missed shots, setting Yorkville back 23-21, though coach Luke Engelhardt remained upbeat. After a halftime pep talk, the Foxes came back with 13 points in the third quarter, putting them ahead 34-29 and they went on to notch a 50-38 victory. “I think we were moving just a little bit slow,” Engelhardt said. “We changed up, went into a man-to-man defense in the second half to try get up a little spark.” Yorkville (7-9) held the Cavaliers to six points in the third quarter with their new defense. The Foxes also relaxed and began making their shots in the second half. Junior …
