Former Oswego man first person convicted in Kendall County for drug-induced homicide.
The former Oswego man convicted of supplying the drugs that killed his girlfriend in March 2010 has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. According to a release from Kendall County State's Attorney Eric Weis, family members of Merrideth Castro were present at Friday's sentencing hearing and provided impact statements to Judge John Barsanti. “The conviction and sentence is one that is necessary to hopefully send a message that illegal drugs are dangerous and can kill. Merrideth Castro would still be alive if Jason Kidd had not cared enough about his girlfriend of several years to n otgo out and buy this lethal drug for both of them to use.” In addition to his prison sentence, Kidd will serve three years of mandatory supervised release. …

Former Oswego resident faces up to 30 years in prison.
A Kendall County jury has found a former Oswego resident guilty in the drug-induced homicide death of his girlfriend. Jason Kidd faces up to 30 years in prison for his part in the 2010 death of Merrideth Castro at the home they shared in the 100 block of Canterbury Court. The jury reached its verdict at about 7 p.m. Thursday, according to Oswego Police media relations officer Rob Sherwood. According to a report in the Aurora Beacon News, Kidd will be sentenced Jan. 6. Police responded to a death investigation at about 6:30 a.m. March 7, 2010. Castro was found unresponsive and pronounced dead on the scene. Former Oswego resident next appears in Kendall County Court June 22.
The first person believed to be charged with drug-induced homicide in Kendall County remains in jail, and Monday pleaded not guilty to charge, according to State’s Attorney Eric Weis. Weis said Jason Kidd, formerly of Oswego, remains in jail on $500,000 bail and will again appear in court June 22 at 9 a.m. for a pretrial status hearing. Kidd, 36, was taken into custody at about 12:30 p.m. May 9 at his home in the 0-99 block of Margarets Lane, Aurora, and charged with the Class X felony. Weis has said he was "about 99 percent positive" Kidd was the first person charged with drug-induced homicide in Kendall County.
