Waubonsie/Metea Girls Claim Regional Gym Crown

Oswego also advances to the Hinsdale Central Sectional, placing second in Monday's regional gymnastics meet, while individuals from Hinsdale South, Plainfield North and Yorkville survive with strong performances.

First,  it was a venue change. Second, came a postponement due to last week's blizzard. Then, on Saturday, captain Laura Burns broke her ankle. All of this could've rattled freshman Jordyn Penny and her Waubonsie Valley/Metea Valley co-op gymnastics teammates, but it didn't faze the team one bit as Waubonsie/Metea won its own regional on Monday with a 141.825 point total. It was the first regional title in team history for Waubonsie/Metea, which originally was supposed to travel to Oswego for the regional before having the site changed to Neuqua Valley where it was postponed last Thursday. "The girls were really excited," Waubonsie Valley/Metea Valley coach Nicole Daly said. "They were a little bummed after the conference (meet) and that …

Editor's Corner

Week in Review

Editor Jillian Duchnowski recaps the week on Yorkville Patch, in case you missed anything.

Everyone's busy, especially this time of the year. So, for your reading enjoyment, I thought I'd present the highlights of this week on Yorkville Patch. Consider it Cliff Notes, with links. Quote of the week: "I thought I had to be reading it wrong, and nobody was home for me to ask," Circle Center Grade School parent Julie Page, on an e-mail she received informing her the school had won $10,000 in an online contest. Best attitude of the week: "There's still pressure, but it's a good kind of pressure where you want to impress your teammates," Yorkville High School gymnast Courtney Dial. Photo of the week: Props goes to whomever decided to include Santa on a motorcycle in their outdoor holiday display. That house on South Main Street, and…

No Team, No Problem: Gym Girls Fine Flying Solo

Gymnasts at Plainfield North, Romeoville and Yorkville represent their schools as individual competitors and fit right in.

Kori Boe knows what it feels like to be alone. The junior from Plainfield North began her high school gymnastics career last winter and was the lone representative from her school. She's not alone now, though, as freshmen Laura Ferguson and Katie McLaren are also competing as individuals for Plainfield North this winter. The IHSA allows gymnasts to compete as individual representatives for their schools, but they cannot compete for a team score. While the Tigers do not compete as a team, that's not keeping them from practicing and performing like a team does. "I love the team atmosphere we now have," Boe said. "Yeah, we're all competing individually, but we support each other like a team and we need that." Gymnasts who decide to transition…

Plainfield North, Romeoville and Yorkville Gymnasts Open Season at Naperville Central

Tigers junior Kori Boe finishes second in the all-around with 35.3, while Ferguson and McLaren, Romeoville's LeVasseur and Yorkville's Dial debut for their respective schools.

Individual gymnasts from Plainfield North, Romeoville and Yorkville were at Naperville Central on Monday night to compete against the host Redhawks, as well as Glenbard West, which finished fifth in the state last year. Glenbard West beat Naperville Central, 142.7 to 132.85, in the team dual meet, as the scores from Plainfield North, Romeoville and Yorkville counted only toward the individual meet standings. Plainfield North junior Kori Boe certainly made a fine impression among the talented gymnasts from Glenbard West. Nicole Pagor won the all-around title for the Hilltoppers with a 35.3, and Boe was right behind her with a 34.75. Boe also took third place on beam with an 8.45 and finished her night with a third-place effort in the floor …
