Construction Begins on Kendall Crossing Movie Theater

Theater is on target to open at the end of 2013.

If you've driven down Route 47 near Route 34 you may have seen some construction going on. The large walls going up inside the Countryside Center will be home to the new Kendall Crossing Movie Theater. City administrator Bart Olson said construction is moving along "smoothly" and the theater is expected to open at the end of the year. Earlier estimates pin the opening for November. Ground was broken for the theater back in January and construction started in mid-april.  The 38,500-square-foot theater will have 10 screens and is expected to include digital projection and sound and be capable of showing 3-D films on each screen. The theater will also include one screen that has the capability of screening IMAX movies. The theater will be …

I looked on the NCG website, but I can't find a good contact address... As a wheelchair user, I'm hoping they copy the seating setup from Wow7 where the accessible spots are at the base of the stadium seats, and not Kendall10's setup, where they're at the top of the front floor-level seats... that few feet make a lot of difference.   more ›

Movie Theater Could Return to Countryside Center

Developer Jim Ratos wants to build a 10-screen movie theater on part of the empty Countryside Center, which sits west of Route 47 north of Route 34.

Yorkville aldermen had glowing reviews Tuesday for an incentive package exceeding $2 million to bring a 10-screen movie theater to the Countryside Center, the subject of a problematic tax increment financing district. Developer Jim Ratos would build the 37,500-square-foot theater for Neighborhood Cinema Group, an Owosso, MI,-based company that operates 14 first-run theaters in small communities. The theater would sit on the lot closest to Route 47; preliminary plans show four commercial lots in Countryside Center. The theater could employ 50 people and open Nov. 15, 2013. “They are a hometown feel-type company," said Jason Pesola of Pesola Media Group, speaking on behalf of the theater company. "Once you get to know them, you’ll see it …

Developer Eying Countryside Property

Commercial developer plans to negotiate with the property owner, which is a subsidiary of Bank of America, officials said.

A commercial developer is interested in the Countryside Center TIF property after city officials indicated they were willing to relax some of their demands needed for financial incentives, leaders said Tuesday. Yorkville Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Lynn Dubajic met with two groups of developers, with one deciding to negotiate with the Bank of America subsidiary that owns the property, City Administrator Bart Olson said in a memo to aldermen. The city has about $2 million in the Countryside TIF (tax increment financing district) fund that can be used for developer incentives. Officials did not reveal much about the possible development other than it was a medium-sized commercial entity. The developers aren't ready to…

Countryside TIF District Still Presents Challenges

Aldermen discuss what to do with the bank-owned property at the northwest corner of routes 34 and 47.

Yorkville is open to a wide range of ideas from developers for the 18-acre Countryside Center property on the northwest corner of routes 34 and 47. That’s the consensus from the city’s Administration Committee, anyway. The property was once the subject of two tax increment financing (TIF) district agreements: One in 2005 included 80,000 in retail space; another in 2008 included 166,000 square feet in retail space. After foreclosure proceedings, the parcel belongs to Bank of America, whose representative hasn’t named a purchase price, said Lynn Dubajic, executive director of the Yorkville Economic Development Corporation. “I have left messages that are enticing to get that number and have not gotten that,” Dubajic told the Administration …
