The following press release was provided by the Yorkville Chamber of Commerce. Ever had the urge to turn a bland rain barrel into a work of art and enter it in a competition? Now’s your chance. Register by March 7 to sponsor the artistic decoration of a rain barrel as part of this year’s Rain Barrels on Parade, the annual fundraising event sponsored by the Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Green Committee. The registration fee is $75, and the sponsors sign-up form is available on the Chamber’s website at www.yorkvillechamber.org . The following information was provided by the Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Green Committee. The Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Green Committee and the United City of Yorkville are seeking vendors, exhibitors and presenters for their fifth annual Go Green Environmental Fair to be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the Yorkville High School, 797 Game Farm Rd. The fair, which is free to the public, features 40 vendor booths spots, and offers opportunities for people who have expertise on environmental issues they would like to present in workshops. White Water Ice Cream, Inc. has opened a new companion business, Party Pad, at 131 E. Hydraulic St., adjacent to the Riverfront Park in Yorkville. Owner Robyn Sutcliff said the Party Pad, in what was formerly Creative Kernels, adjacent to the ice cream shop, will offer “Sunday Ice Cream Days” from noon to 5 p.m. through the winter. The newly decorated space also can be rented for birthday parties, baby and wedding showers, bridge parties, and other small events year round. Upcoming planned events at the Party Pad include Pics with Pets from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, and Pics with Kids from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2. Chamber event set for Friday morning.
As IDOT continues to expand Route 47 some area business leaders are wondering how the construction will impact their business. The Yorkville Chamber of Commerce, along with a representative of the Illinois Department of Transportation, is hosting a discussion Friday on the road expansion and how it will impact business. Demolition of the Muellner building on the corner of Route 47 and Van Emmon Street was completed last month as the widening of Route 47 continues. A retaining wall along Van Emmon Street to Fox Street is also scheduled for removal, however that is not expected to take place until a temporary widening of the pavement is complete, which should take place by mid-December, weather permitting. Business Trick-or-Treat on Oct. 27. In addition to the coveted candy, many businesses offered games, crafts, food or product samples, and free raffle drawings for some outstanding gifts! Participants could also vote for their favorite carved pumpkins at the contest held at St. Joseph Cabinetry. Speaking at Tuesday's legislative breakfast in Aurora, U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk offered short-term action to turn the economy around.
Before a crowd of hundreds of business leaders on Tuesday morning, Sen. Mark Kirk offered some ideas to turn the economy around. The Illinois Republican was the guest of a dozen chambers of commerce—including those from Montgomery, Oswego and Yorkville—who organized Tuesday’s legislative breakfast at Piper’s Banquets in Aurora. And though Kirk led off with some dire words about our current economic situation, he did come to the table with several ideas. Kirk has already introduced one of them, the Lincoln Legacy Infrastructure Development Act, in Congress. Co-authored with Republican Rep. Randy Hultgren, from Illinois’ 14th District, the bill removes roadblocks to public/private partnerships in the rail, highway and aviation industries. …

The crowds were aplenty at River Night on Friday in Yorkville's Bicentennial Riverfront Park.
City officials allowed River Night to last an hour longer than originally planned Friday night in light of the large crowd. The Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the city, hosted the fifth annual event in Bicentennial Riverfront Park. The popular 80s cover band EPIC performed from 7pm until 10pm. Beverages and food were being served along with several small tent vendors from local businesses such as The Olive Gallery and Creative Kernels. Children's entertainment was also available, including face-painting.
