Hultgren Reaffirms Commitment to Kendall County Metra Station, Urges Patience

Congressman defends his bill encouraging states to introduce graduated system for handing out drivers licenses.

The turnout was sparse, but the opinions were many when U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren appeared Thursday at Oswego Village Hall for a town hall meeting. Although much of the discussion focused on national issues, Hultgren did respond to a question posed by Oswego Village President Brian LeClercq about whether he supports the position of former House speaker and 14th District U.S. Rep. Dennis Hastert regarding funding for a Kendall County Metra station near Orchard and Mill roads. Before leaving office, Hastert had secured $75 million in the federal transportation bill. Hultgren said he does support it, but he urged patience in light of cuts to the federal transportation budget. "I know these things take time, which is frustrating," he said. "At …

Oswego, Yorkville, Kendall County Still at Odds Over KenCom Agreement

The top municipal officials in Oswego and Yorkville aren't ready to sign a new cost-sharing agreement with the KenCom emergency dispatch system. Doing so, they say, would be fiscally irresponsible.

Update at 8:50 p.m.: Yorkville's City Council voted, 5-4, against signing the agreement from KenCom. Voting against the agreement were: Aldermen Arden Joe Plocher, Diane Teeling, Robyn Sutcliff and Marty Munns and Mayor Valerie Burd. Burd said she plans to meet with the Oswego and Plano mayors, as well as an attorney, to discuss the next steps. Approving a new cost-sharing agreement proposed by KenCom, the 911 emergency dispatch system operated by Kendall County, would be a fiscally irresponsible move, Yorkville Mayor Valerie Burd said. And it's one she says that she isn't willing to support in these tough economic times. Oswego Village President Brian LeClercq agrees. And the members of his village board have already voted -- in early …

Hultgren Committee Appointments Could Mean Progress on Metra Stop

Congressman visits Oswego Park-n-Ride facility to survey land for possible commuter train stop.

The appointment of 14th Congressional District U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren to the House Transportation Committee and a rail subcommittee could mean real progress in Oswego's efforts to build a Metra commuter rail station in the village. Hultgren appeared with Oswego Village President Brian LeClercq at the village's Park-n-Ride facility near Orchard and Mill roads Tuesday to get a firsthand look at the land that could eventually be used for the station and parking lot. "I've driven by the area dozens of time but I've never stopped to look," Hultgren said. "This is something I needed to see." A Metra commuter stop for Oswego is an issue that's been discussed for years and was first proposed at the federal level by former House Speaker Dennis …

Village Board Narrowly Approves $18M Senior Housing Development

Village President Brian LeClercq cast the deciding vote on the project for the village's west side.

It's not very often that Oswego Village President LeClercq is forced to vote on an issue. But it happened again Tuesday night when LeClercq was pressed into action to approve a planned $18 million rent-controlled senior housing project in the village off Orchard Road near Lewis Street. The project, which will include 61 units, likely will break ground this spring and could be complete by 2012. Trustees Tony Giles, Jeff Lawson and Terry Michels voted no on a motion to approve the final planned unit development and rezoning of the land. For his part, Giles said he voted no because he believed the village was giving away too much in fees to the developers, Three Diamond Developers of Skokie. When the development was first proposed in 2008, …

Oswego ECO Commission Casts Shadow on Solar Farm Idea

Resolution sets guidelines for green energy proposals; 'project facilitator' says lots to study before decision is made.

Oswego or perhaps Yorkville one day may be home to the largest solar farm in the United States, if not the world. But the company proposing the plan, Dynamic Solar LLC, has a lot of work to do first. The original proposal put before the Village of Oswego and the United City of Yorkville in early November called for a 700-megawatt solar facility to be built somewhere in Kendall County. The largest photovoltaic facility in the Unite States, in Nevada, is only 48 megawatts, although there are several bigger facilities in the planning stages. After reviewing the proposal at the request of Village President Brian LeClercq, the Environmentally Conscious Oswego Commission passed a resolution this week asking the company to address three main …

I agree with Jeff. When you look at how much tax payer money has to be put into any of these solar farms world wide the only ones making any money are the political connect. The rest of us are left paying for the clean up.   more ›
