For more Hometown Days coverage, see this page. Yorkville's Park Board challenged the City Council to see which group could garner more tips at the Hometown Days' beer tent Friday, Sept. 2. They initially intended to funnel all the tips collected toward a charity of the winners' choice, but they ended up dividing the money between the two charities. (The City Council members won the challenge.) Mayor Gary Golinski presented a check for $288.38 to Meals on Wheels at Tuesday's City Council meeting. For more information about Hometown Days in general, please see the city's website. The Yorkville Area Kiwanis and the Citizens Police Academy Alumni are hosting a duck pluck. Participants purchase numbered tickets, which correspond to one of the 3,000 yellow rubber ducks. At 4 p.m. Sunday, someone will "pluck" a numbered duck from the pool, and whoever bought that ticket will win a four-day, three-night all-inclusive trip to Mexico. The plucking will continue until all the prizes have been awarded. Tickets are $3 each or two for $5. They will be available during Hometown Days from a tent organizers run near the main entrance.
