YIS Recognized for Program Assisting Students with Academic, Social Issues
School's 1-5-9 program provides extra assistance to students struggling academically and/ or socially.
Yorkville Intermediate School administrators and faculty were recognized for a program raising student achievement at a Dec. 4 conference in St. Charles. The school-wide 1–5–9 program helps students who struggle either academically or socially by providing them a caring, in-school, adult role model, according to information provided by the school. Daily interactions with a staff member, coupled with continual parent contact, benefit students. “After the first year, we gathered data regarding the impact of the program and discovered that almost 90 percent of students who participated were affected in a positive way,” Steve Bjork, principal at YIS said in a press release.
