Boys team won state championship; girls captured second.

A special thanks to Coach Craig Weyrich for providing the following news release and photograph. The Cross Lutheran boys and girls track teams completed another successful season over Mother’s day weekend with a 1st and 2nd place finish at the LSA state championship meet in River Forest, IL.  Both teams competed against 31 other teams from around the state.  The boys’ win makes the 7th year in a row that either the boys’ or girls’ team have won the state meet. The boys’ team dominated the track on day two of the event, scoring 84 points to beat second place Palatine (57 points).  The boys were led by individual champions Gabe Arroyo (100M), Trevor Wills (1600M,800M), and relay teams of Arroyo, Will Hoving, Mason Funk, and Henry Hoving (…

Yorkville's Paige Klimavicius won both vault and bars at the USAG Illinois Level 4 State Meet in Peoria.

A special thanks to Leanne Klimavicius for providing this photograph and news release: Yorkville resident Paige Klimavicius, 3rd grader at Grande Reserve Elementary School, competed at the USAG Illinois Level 4 State Meet in Peoria on April 21, 2012.  She placed 1st in both vault and bars and 2nd place All Around. Paige competes for Premier West Gymnastics Academy in Oswego.

Cross Evangelical Lutheran School's 8th grade basketball team made an appearance at Tuesday's City Council meeting.

Yorkville Mayor Gary Golinski recognized Cross Evangelical Lutheran School's 8th grade boys basketball team for placing third in the national tournament - the 65th Annual Lutheran Basketball Association of Americas Tournament of Champions.

YHS Soccer Finishes Barbfest with Victory

The Lady Foxes take on Oswego at home Tuesday.

With a convincing 4-1 victory over Indian Creek of their final game of the DeKalb Barbfest tournament, the Lady Foxes finished the week with 2 wins and 2 losses.   Tuesday's game at home against conference foe Streator ended with a hard fought 2-1 victory in which the team rallied around one another for their best team effort of the season.  The first score happened in the 14th minute when Nikki Hills followed up on a bouncing ball from a great corner kick by Sarah Megazzini.  After a goal off a stellar blast from a Streator striker, Julia Busco decided to end the tie …

Spirit Cheerleaders Capture Second

Team Pride completed at the Xtreme Cheerleading Championships at Navy Pier

A special thanks to Jada Lutterbach for providing this photograph and news release. Spirit Cheerleading Team Pride placed 2nd at the Xtreme Cheerleading Championships held at Navy Pier over the weekend. Team Pride competed against teams from across the Midwest, inched out of the top spot by a very talented team from Michigan. The girls improved their overall score by 7 points from their last competition to take home the 2nd Place distinction! We are so proud of these young ladies on their continued dedication to the sport they love! Pictured as followed: First Row: Chaeli Barnes, Kayla Abney, McKenna Calloway, and Alexia Heriaud. YHS Varsity Soccer Team Embraces Defensive Mindset

Girls set to play four games this week.

With Spring Break behind them, the Lady Foxes looked to get things rolling against DeKalb at home and away at Coal City.  With a quick and well-disciplined DeKalb attack coming throughout, the Foxes limited damage to two goals per half, but did not manage to put any of their own goals in.  "I feel confident with our defensive mindset, but unfortunately, the majority of our team has that mindset right now and we are struggling to gain an offensive momentum," states Yorkville's head coach, Mike Jacobs. Whiz Kids: Cross Lutheran 8th Grade Boys Basketball Team

The team placed third at the national championships this weekend.

Whiz Kids: 8th Grade Boys Basketball Team Whiz Kids' School: Cross Evangelical Lutheran School Whiz Kids' Accomplishment: The team placed third Sunday in the 65th Annual Lutheran Basketball Association of Americas Tournament of Champions. The national tournament took place at Valparaiso University in Indiana. Thanks to a partnership with Rosati's Pizza, each Whiz Kid receives a free 12-in thin-crust cheese pizza redeemable at the Yorkville or Sandwich locations. Cross Evangelical Lutheran School's 8th grade boys basketball team will play at nationals this weekend.

A special thanks to Lori Dervis of Cross Evangelical Lutheran School for sharing this news release and these photographs about the basketball program. Congratulations to the 7/8th Grade girls team which placed 8th at State this year. 8th Grade Boys will play in the 65th Annual Lutheran Basketball Association of Americas Tournament of Champions (nationals) held on March 29-April 1 on the Valparaiso University Campus. Their first game is slated for Friday, March 30 at 10:20 am against Christ Community from Kirkwood, Missouri! Cross will be wearing Maroon and Grey to support the boys team and will watch the game at school via telecast!!

Photo: Aqua Force Qualifies for State

Some Fox Valley Family YMCA swimmers qualified for the state meet.

A special thanks to Stephanie Wayne of the Fox Valley Family YMCA for providing the photograph and this news release: The Fox Valley Family YMCA Aqua Force Swim Team had several swimmers qualify for the state meet.  Brodie Mikuta qualified in the 100 yard butterfly and the 100 yard breast stroke and Skylar Ruggles qualified in the 25 yard backstroke.  Two freestyle relay teams qualified as well: the 8 and under team of Ythan Houston, Ethan Castilla, Matthew Harris and Ahmed Kasim and the 15 and over team of Michael Ebinger, Tim Durning, Nick Snopek and James Iglesias.
