Thats right Sally, the reason the elephant is so fat is because he ate all of the peoples rights, money, food, jobs, health, women and everything else that he wanted so that he would become the biggest and most wealthy puppet master the world has ever seen............   more ›

Poll: What Should Be Done About Kendall County Board Meeting Pay?

We ask readers how leaders should respond to questions surrounding County Board member Dan Koukol's meeting pay.

Kendall County State's Attorney Eric Weis has suggested hiring an independent auditor to review the 10 county board members' meeting payments. Weis estimated an outside audit of the meeting payments over the past three years would cost $5,000 to $10,000. The forensic auditor could review meeting minutes and payments and provide the type of information necessary for a criminal investigation. Weis' recommendation came at Thursday's Committee of the Whole meeting, but the matter was not discussed at Tuesday's County Board meeting. Board Chairman John Purcell said it would be discussed "soon." The issue arose after Finance Committee chair Anne Vickery questioned several payments County Board member Dan Koukol requested - and received - for …

My thought is that if he offered to pay it on the spot, he knew he was doing something wrong. If he knew he was doing something wrong, he shouldn't have done it. If I truly felt that money belonged to me, then I would be like, "No, I was doing a service to the community. Prove that I didn't." With the state of taxes today, I don't blame people for getting in a huff. Whether or not Todd or Ann …   more ›

Moreli, thank you for finally agreeing with me. Glad to see you and the Catholic Church support extra martial affairs equally across the board. It has the church's blessing for both traditional marriage folk as well as gays.   more ›

Visions for Vacancies

Visions for Vacancies: Former Caring Hands Site

Readers, what do you think would fit in the heart of the downtown area?

Caring Hands Thrift Shop moved from the heart of downtown Yorkville to the northeast corner of routes 47 and 126 late last year. The move means more space for the shop associated with Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church, but it also means a vacancy downtown. What do you think Yorkville's downtown needs? The area has been rejuvenated with The Follies Theatre and Cobblestone Bakery & Bistro. Kendall Pub, OJ's Tap and Bridge Street Cafe and Lounge are older stand-bys. What do you think should be thrown into the mix?

I agree 100%. Great Post. Unless money is no object, students should focus on vocations the world needs. Those jobs typically pay well. Students and parents need to be honest with themselves when picking a school and a major.   more ›

My mom knows what I don't know, has the spare parts I don't yet know I need, rides ATVs and tractors, loves Robert Frost and reads Yorkville Patch regularly. Also, until a few days ago, she had baby chicks living in a box on her kitchen table. They are now in the coop she built herself, and before long, she will be sending me home with farm fresh eggs - which are exponentially better than the ones available at the store. She quilts BY HAND, went through a phase when she made awesome purses out of hardcover books and has more faith in her three children than any trio of flawed individuals truly deserves. I'm old enough to have an adult relationship with her and appreciate some of the nuances behind the decisions she made as a mother. I also…

My mom has always been there to support me in everything I do and to offer advice when I ask. She taught me that homemade could be just as beautiful as store bought as she made prom dresses, wedding dresses and other things when I asked. She taught me that the clearance rack is my friend and that paying half price feels way better than paying full price. She is everything that I hope to become to…   more ›

Local Businesses, Let's Harness Social Media

Your favorite local Patch editor has an idea!

Small businesses are important. Some say they are the backbone of our economy. And they don't particularly need to be that small on Facebook: Yorkville Patch has 1,260 Facebook fans. Homeplate Hotdogs has 618. Kendall Pub has 1,088. Some local businesses have fewer, though. So, I'm proposing a special Facebook exchange. I'll post about you, if you post about me. Then, other local businesses can "share" that post from the Yorkville Patch Facebook page on their own pages to help support other local businesses. If you are a Yorkville area business with an independent Facebook page and you'd like to participate, this is what I need from you: Keep in mind that you'll want your business name somewhere in the post so I can tag it; tagging is how …
