Family, Friends Remember Ryan Perina

The 2009 Yorkville High School graduate died early Thursday in a car crash on Kennedy Road.

Ryan Perina recently drove 50 miles, roundtrip, to help a friend with a flat tire. Perina, who died last week in a car crash on Kennedy Road, was memorialized as a tough athlete, a friend whose antics made mundane workdays fun, and the type of kid who would loan you lunch money if you needed it. Perina’s funeral was Wednesday morning. His friend Andy remembered him joking years ago that Andy’s mom had paid him $100 to let Andy win an important wrestling match. The referee ended up telling them to stop talking. “He had that freak strength and that explosive power,” Andy said. “He had so much passion, he’d never give up.” Perina’s former wrestling coach Shane Darnell couldn’t attend the service, but Barry Norris, senior pastor at Park Place …

Photos: Remembering Former State Senator Robert Mitchler

The riverfront property Robert Mitchler tended for more six decades might provide the best testament to the life he lived. The former state senator, 91, died Thursday, but the large, iconic American flag still flapped in the wind outside his home Friday afternoon. He lived along the Fox River, off Route 34 between Yorkville and Oswego, with his wife, Helen. “The time he could spend by himself, or with (his sons), or with Mom working on the property were the best memories he had,” his son, Kurt Mitchler, said. The veteran who enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941, fighting in both World War II and the Korean War, had the American flag flying in front of the home 24 hours a day. Former Plainfield Enterprise Publisher Dead at Age 74

Merwyn "Babe" Miller was also a guidance counselor at Plainfield High School, according to his obituary.

Merwyn "Babe" Miller, the one-time co-owner and publisher of the Plainfield Enterprise, died Saturday at age 74. For many years, he also worked as a guidance counselor at Plainfield High School, according to an obituary published in the Joliet Herald News. Miller, of Yorkville, was born on Feb. 15, 1937, to Clare and Maude (Scott) Miller. He wed Kathryn E. Abrams on June 7, 1958 at the Yorkville Methodist Church; they were married for 45 years until her death in 2003. Miller, who graduated from Yorkville High School in 1955, was a very active member of the Yorkville community. He was elected to the Yorkville School Board and was a member of the Trinity Church United Methodist, the Bristol-Kendall Volunteer Fire Department and the Yorkville…
