YMS Cross Country Starts Things Up

Monday was the first practice for the Yorkville Middle School cross country team. Over 75 runners have signed up for the team so far, and there are always sign ups late in the season so it's looking like another season of over 80 7th and 8th graders running for Yorkville.

The middle school team has followed in the wake of the high school team's success. YMS has been a member of the IESA (the elementary school version of the IHSA) for the past 4 years and has made State for 3 out of those 4 years. Last season was the first time both the girls and boys finished in the top 10 at State.

However, our State runners always get recognition, and while we will recognize their successes here, we want to make sure all of our runners get the recognition they deserve. Everyone on the team runs 2 miles for their races, but they run a lot more during practice, and work a lot harder than many people realize.

Each week we will recognize any runners who have earned PRs (personal records) as well as our Runner of the Week and Sportsmanship award winners. We always recognize these runners on our website (ymsrunning.com), but they deserve wider recognition. We hope you will congratulate our athletes on their accomplishments as they progress through the cross country season.
