In a previous blog post I talked about how the Yorkville Middle School cross country athletes need to earn their uniforms by running an entire race without walking. They had their second opportunity to earn their uniform on Thursday when we had our final time trial of the season. Runners who already earned their uniforms would try to set a PR (personal record) by running a faster time during the second time trial.
This year we had a number of runners volunteer to lead "pace groups". These runners had already earned their uniforms, but decided to help other runners earn their uniforms by setting the pace for those runners. The runners who did this (Alex Loos, Ben Summers, Cole Bruck, Colleen O'Connor, Evan Bender, Matt Cox, and Zack Price) sacrificied their chance to earn a PR to help their teammates. This is why we refer to our team as a "family". The pace group runners did a great job helping out since there are only a handful of runners left on the team who haven't earned their uniforms.
