City Leaders Charity Challenge

Yorkville's Park Board challenged the City Council to see which group could garner more tips at the Hometown Days' beer tent Friday, Sept. 2. They initially intended to funnel all the tips collected toward a charity of the winners' choice, but they ended up dividing the money between the two charities. (The City Council members won the challenge.)

Mayor Gary Golinski presented a check for $288.38 to Meals on Wheels at Tuesday's City Council meeting. He also presented a check for $250 to Kendall County Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS).

Library Used Book Sale

The Friends of the raised more then $4,200 at its used book sale, which was organized by a 32-person committee led by Judy Somerlot and Becki Sallee.

During the sale, a quilt donated by Darlene Mount was raffled; the winner was Sandy Stewart.

The used books had been donated (not from the library) and were passed on to after the sale, Somerlot said. Proceeds from the sale will support library programs or buying new library books. Past programs include the , the and the purchase of for the library’s summer reading program.

BaggaPalooza

, a bags/cornhole tournament, raised more than $2,000 for the , organizer Jason Pesola said. The winners are:

First Place: Mark Steinke and Jimmy Matsko (photo included in gallery in this article)
Second Place: Mike Mathison and Nate Strausberger (photo included in gallery in this article)
Third Place: Ken Weiland and Mark Spangler
Fourth Place: Lance Briggs and Jameson Ford

Rain Barrels on Parade

The 's and the city's Green Committees hosted an auction of rain barrels painted by local artists. The project was sponsored by area businesses.
