Route 47: Side Streets Will Close with Work in Northbound Lanes

Things are progressing along Route 47, with the earlier announcement this week that East Hydraulic has been reopened.

Julia Messina, Community Liaison for IDOT D-3 provided more updates on Route 47. 

She reported that AT&T is essentially done with their relocation efforts north of the river and minor items remain. All utility relocation is completed, and the contractor is now able to begin installation of storm sewer and water main.

Work on these items may begin this fall, based on scheduling and work crew availability.

Other updates include:

• The contractor continues to install storm sewer south of the river. Work is essentially complete to Washington Street.
• The contractor expects to begin the next phase of the project in the coming weeks, from the river to Washington Street, with that work including construction of new concrete pavement in the northbound lanes. As work progresses, motorists will experience closures at the affected side street intersections. (Side streets included in this are Hydraulic, Van Emmon, Fox and Washington). Temporary pavement will be installed in certain areas of this portion of the project to accommodate traffic movements along the west side of IL 47. Curb and gutter, sidewalk and related incidental work will follow concrete pavement. Weather permitting, it is anticipated all of this work, from the river to Washington Street, will be completed before winter.
• Work will continue on the expansion joint replacement on the river bridge.
• The east sidewalk across the river bridge remains closed.
