East Part of Van Emmon Street to Close Week of July 22; More Route 47 Updates

Night work is also beginning and will last for 3-4 weeks.

What's new with Route 47?

Apparently quite a bit. This recent update on all construction activities associated with the Route 47 project was provided by Julia M. Messina, the IDOT D-3 Community Relations Manager.

  • Removal of the retaining wall just south of Van Emmon St. is complete.
  • Installation of the storm sewer under the RR tracks at Hydraulic St. is complete. Work on other storm sewer installation will continue.
  • The east leg of the Van Emmon St. intersection will be closed to all traffic beginning the week of July 22 to allow for installation of water main and storm sewer, weather permitting. The closure is expected to last 4 to 5 days. A detour will be posted.  Motorists can use Fox St. to access Van Emmon St. around the work area.
  • Night work will begin the week of July 15 and will involve installation of water main across IL 47 at various locations south of the river.  Storm sewer-related work will also be done at night around the same time. It is expected this work will last for 3 to 4 weeks during this phase of the project.  Nighttime work hours will be 8pm to 6 am. Motorists can expect delays during this work. Work is being performed at night to cause the least disruption to traffic as possible.
  • Motorists can also expect various daytime side road closures as work progresses on the storm sewer and water main-related work as well for approximately the next month.

  • Motorists are reminded that the east leg of the Hydraulic St./IL 47 intersection is closed and will remain closed as work progresses.
  • Utility relocation work continues north of the river.
  • Pedestrians are reminded that the east sidewalk, on the bridge across the Fox River, on through to the Hydraulic St. intersection, is closed.
  • Motorists are reminded of the 30 mph speed limit throughout the project, changed traffic patterns and restricted lane widths. They are also reminded that cell phone use in the construction zone is not allowed by law. They also should be alert for flaggers and all other workers and for slow or stopped traffic as well.
How have you been coping with the Route 47 construction? Is it impacting your daily commute or have you found work arounds?
