Concrete Pouring for Middle Portion of Route 47 Begins This Week

Hydraulic Street has been reopened, left-hand turns at Van Emmon likely to be allowed again at end of November.

There's been plenty of recent work on Route 47.

Check out the most recent updates provided by Julia Messina, Community Liaison IDOT D-3:

•   On November 1, 2013, we switched traffic on IL 47 from Washington Street to the Fox River for northbound traffic; southbound traffic is currently on the existing traffic pattern.

•   The contractor began removing the middle section of IL 47 from the river to Washington Street.

•   Preparation for new concrete in the middle portion is currently taking place, pavement should be poured the week of November 11, 2013—weather permitting.

•   Storm and sanitary sewer work continues to the south. Storm sewer installation, south of Il 126, will continue throughout the winter, weather permitting.

•   Temporary widening is being done north of the river, from Main Street to approximately Landmark. This will allow traffic to be staged so that the contractor can begin storm sewer installation.  Storm sewer installation, north of the river, may begin yet this year, depending on weather and work crew availability, otherwise, it’ll begin in the spring of 2014.

•   Left-hand turns at Van Emmon St are not currently allowed, but once the middle lane is poured, left-hand turns will resume, which we expect will happen by the end of November.  Van Emmon St was closed due to pavement grade differentials and staging.

•   Hydraulic Street is open.

•   Flaggers will be present when we pour concrete from the river to Washington Street.

•   Businesses and residents, whose access is affected by the work, should know that the Department of Transportation and the contractor are aware of the need for performing the work as efficiently and expeditiously as possible in order to reestablish access and minimize the inconvenience whenever possible.

•   Motorists are advised to be alert for changing conditions as the work progresses. Motorists are also reminded of the 30 mph speed limit through the work zone and that cell phone use is not allowed in the work zone.
