Kendall County Local Government 411

Our county’s recent 11% local/consolidated election turnout was quite disappointing. The good news is my family accounted for about 3 percent of the votes cast in the Fox Township election race and there are only three people in our household who are old enough to vote, so we did our part to be active, engaged, and interested citizens. Memorial Day was just last weekend and it is an annual reminder that Our Freedom is not Free. If you know a veteran, please thank him or her for their service to our country and helping to preserve our way of life that we all seem to take for granted.

At the May 21, 2013 Kendall County Board meeting, Ryan Morton, the News Director for local radio station WSPY (107.1FM) asked the Kendall States Attorney, represented by Assistant State Attorney Leslie Johnson, about the status of the one-year-old Kendall County Board “Per Diem” forensic audit and the ongoing Kendall States Attorney’s investigation. Ms. Johnson, who was attending the KCB meeting in place of the absent Kendall States Attorney Eric Weis (who was doing a jury trial and actually prosecuting), again stated, “No comment.” As of 5-30-2013, the Kendall County Accounts Payable Clerk has not received any new bills from the Forensic Auditor and the last audit bill submitted was through the month of March 2013. As many of you know, I and others have been trying to drag our Kendall County Government into the 21st century.  I am happy to report with a lot of patience, determination, persistence and prodding, we citizens are making progress in getting local government officials to actually listen.

Here are two recent examples where persistence, determination, and prodding may actually result in new local county legislation, plus the ability to actually find out who to contact and actually have the ability to contact those important local government officials easily:

The Boulder Hill woman referenced in this local story above has been very patient and this long-standing and ongoing Boulder Hill problem is long overdue to be addressed.

Here is the email addresses for the Kendall County Board collectively and each board member individually.

The above, Kendall County Yearbook/ Local Government Contact Information Document is very current and has incorporated all the newly elected local government officials’ contact information.

Please be advised that the Bristol Township Assessor listing is current and correct as the old Bristol Assessor, Ray Waclaw, does not leave office until Dec. 31, 2013. Therefore, Bristol Township voters who turned him out of office must endure one more “Waclaw” assessment cycle. Last year, Bristol Township had a very high number of assessments challenged and protested at the Kendall County Board of Tax Appeals.

Kudos and a special thanks goes to Kendall County Clerk Debbie Gillette for actually responding to the need to update the “Kendall County Yearbook” and then using the technology we citizens have already paid for to get this important local government contact document current and on the county website.

If you see an elected or appointed official who does not have an email address or phone number and you know what their email/phone # is, then please email that contact information to Kendall County Clerk Debbie Gillette at: dgillette@co.kendall.il.us .

Please don’t hesitate to call or contact any local or elected official.

Remember, they are supposed to serve the citizenry of this county, especially the ones who are paid to do a job as they DO work for us.

Now, if we could just get the County Checkbook online for us citizens to review how our tax monies are being spent each month.

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
