Medical Service Project to Brazil

I have just been given a wonderful opportunity to go to Brazil and provide nursing care to communities in need.

I'd like to share with you a trip that I am going to take that will hopefully be a life changing experience for the people I come in contact with, as well as myself.  I am currently a senior at Chamberlain College of Nursing. I will be graduating February 2014 with my BSN in Nursing.

I have been chosen to go to Brazil in September of this year for an international service project. I will be going with 11 other nursing students and an instructor. We will be providing nursing/medical care to these communities for 2 weeks. A majority of the people in these communities are not able to receive proper medical care; some have never received medical care in their life. We will be doing thorough assessments, checking vital signs, treating wounds and open sores, prenatal care, pediatric care, lots of education related to health topics and much, much more. I will be using the nursing skills I have learned to provide the best care possible. We will be giving the people we encounter the care that they need.

Something that I do need is the money to get there and also the medical supplies that we will be using to treat these communities. I am trying to fundraise to earn money or donations of the supplies we will need. I am currently looking for people or companies to sponsor me toward this once in a lifetime experience. Any amount that you may be able to give would be an abundance of help. No amount is too small (or too big). Your kindness and generosity with contributions will help change a person's life. Even by contributing a few dollars, it is all gratefully appreciated and will make a difference.

I have been fortunate enough to have raised $590 so far. If people knew what I will be doing, I think that some may be able to help out. Whether it be a monetary contribution or by donating some of the supplies I will need. This is the link to my fundraiser page:

If there are people who have network connections to hospitals, pharmacies, doctors office, etc. and are able to help with the supplies needed please let me know. A list of supplies needed is currently on my fundraiser page.

My hope is that this trip proves to be life changing for the people of Brazil even more than myself. Even if I am able to change one life, that is a great accomplishment. Thank you for letting me share with you what will be one of the most meaningful experiences of my life.

Warm Regards,

Suzette Herrada-Contreras
