Yorkville is sending four teams to a competition at Joliet West High School on Sunday.

A special thanks to Yorkville High School Varsity Cheer Coach Becki Deater for submitting the following news release and the associated photographs and rosters.

On Wednesday, Dec. 7, the cheerleaders hosted the 3rd annual Prairie Conference Cheer/Poms/Dance Showcase.  Area teams including Plano and Oswego middle schools.  The event showcased routines that squads have been working on this season.  This was the first time YMS was the host school for this event.  The showcase was an opportunity for many teams to prepare for upcoming competitions and perform in a competition style setting.

Both the Yorkville Sideline and Competition teams executed solid performances.  The YMS step team also had an amazing performance to showcase their hard work.  The YHS Varsity cheerleaders also performed their competition routine and all three Yorkville cheer teams combined on the mat to end the evening.  Many volunteers helped make this event possible, including YMS cheer parents, YHS Varsity cheerleaders, and Tony Jones who served as the announcer for the event.  Half of the proceeds collected at the event were donated to the “Helping Hunter Fund.”

On Saturday, Dec. 10, the Yorkville High School JV and Varsity cheer teams traveled to Frankfort, IL to attend the North Pole competition at Lincoln-Way North High School.  JV started off the day with their best performance yet, landing them a first place trophy out of a division of seven teams.  YHS Varsity went up against a tough field of 13 competitors, including four teams that placed in the top ten at IHSA state finals last year.  YHS Varsity team came in 7th place, one place ahead of the defending state champs from Lemont.  They took a few risks, putting a new stunt in the routine, and hope to execute it better at their next competition.

For the first time ever, Yorkville will send all four cheer teams (YMS Sideline and Competitive, YHS JV and Varsity) to a competition on Sunday, December 18 at Joliet West High School.  The middle school and JV competition is set to begin at 10am, with the Varsity competition to follow around 1pm.
