YHS Varsity Cheerleaders State-Bound

The girls placed third at sectionals Sunday.

A special thanks to Varsity Cheer Coach Becki Deater for submitting the following news release and photograph.

On Saturday, January 28, the Varsity cheerleading team traveled to the 18 team IHSA Sectionals at Mahomet-Seymour High School and came home with an excellent third place, qualifying them for IHSA State Finals.  They performed a flawless routine with no deductions and earned their highest score of the season of 84.1.

The team travels to the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington on Friday, February 3 to compete in the IHSA State Finals Competition.  The competition is set to begin at 9am with Yorkville performing 11th of the 25 medium division teams at 11am.

Deater had a special comment for the team:

I am so proud of this YHS Varsity team.  These 19 girls have had some setbacks this season.  They could have just given up and used those obstacles as excuses.  Instead, they pulled together and pushed through.  They continue to improve every single competition, regardless of what has happened.  They don’t let anything stop them on their way to their goal.  I know they will perform well at state finals when the pressure is on; that’s just the kind of team they are.  I am truly honored to be their coach!
