YHS varsity cheerleaders captured fourth place, while junior varsity team came in second.

A special thanks to Varsity Cheer Coach Becki Deater for submitting the following news release and photographs.

On Sunday, January 8, the Junior Varsity and Varsity cheer teams of Yorkville High School, along with the two Yorkville Middle School cheer teams, traveled together to Oak Forest High School for the final competition that all four teams would attend together this season.

The JV cheer team started the day off for Yorkville and accomplished their goal of increasing difficulty of skills for their routine in this competition.  They had a solid performance and came home with a second place trophy in the small JV division.

Next up was the YHS Varsity team and they had their best performance of the season!  They stuck all of their stunts and executed a solid, clean routine.  With a score of 79.87, they brought home a fourth place trophy finishing behind three top ten IHSA state ranked teams.  Yorkville finished just two points behind Bloomington, who they will face again in IHSA Sectionals later this month.  Yorkville was the only team in the medium Varsity division to have a clean routine with no deductions.

The Varsity team will be competing in the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Cheerleading competition this Sunday, January 15 at Rochelle High School.  The competition begins at 11am with Yorkville performing second out of the nine teams scheduled to compete.  They will be going up against some tough competitors in the conference.  JV will also perform an exhibition at the conference meet as well.

The afternoon sessions included great performances from the YMS Sideline and Competitive cheer teams.  In their final competition of the year, the Sideline team performed an excellent routine, finishing first in the small jr. high division with a score of 76.63.  The Competitive team drew tough competition, including defending IESA State Champs, Cardinal Bernardin.  The YMS squad performed a clean routine and placed 3rd with a score of 75.73, just behind second place Queen of Martyrs with a score of 80.10 and first place Cardinal Bernardin with a score of 86.50.  The YMS Competitive team will take the next two weeks to practice their routine and add more difficult stunts in preparation for their final competition of the year, IESA State Finals on Saturday, January 21 in Peoria at the Civic Center.
