Middle school cheerleaders placed fifth at state; high school varsity cheerleaders head to sectionals this weekend.

A special thanks to Varsity Cheer Coach Becki Deater for submitting the following news release and photograph.

On Saturday, January 21, the Competitive Cheer Team traveled to the Civic Center in Peoria to compete in the IESA Cheerleading State Finals.  Middle school teams from all over the state competed in five different divisions; small and large cheer only and small, medium and large routine divisions (includes cheer and music).

The YMS Cheerleaders competed in the Medium Routine Division and had a field of 20 tough competitors.  The YMS team led off their division by performing first and executed their best routine yet, which included some of the most difficult stunting and solid tumbling of the season.  The YMS cheerleaders landed some of their best scores of the season and placed 5th overall, coming in behind 4th place New Lenox Liberty, 3rd place South Holland McKinley, 2nd place Lake Zurich North, and State Champs Orland Hills Bernardin (their 5th year winning the title).  The YMS Competitive Cheer team has had an amazing season and wonderful support from the community!  Excellent job on a successful season!
