Girls Basketball: Foxes Falter at Redskins' Return
Morris 42, Yorkville 38. In a rematch between two rivals on Senior Night, Yorkville let an opportunity slip away at the free throw line.
The Hot Read: Yorkville took Morris into overtime but fell short in a 42-38 girls basketball rematch on Thursday night. Yorkville’s seniors started the game on Senior Night and played well defensively in the early going. Neither side scored 4 minutes. The Foxes trailed Morris 17-15 at the half but came back to take a 26-21 lead in the third quarter after a strong scoring run by Jordann Dhuse. However, fouls allowed the Redskins to pull even in the fourth quarter and take the game into overtime at 35-35. Morris then completed its season sweep of the Foxes. The Redskins won the first game 40-33 on Jan. 11.
Patch’s MVP: Yorkville’s Jordann Dhuse (15 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal). Dhuse led the Foxes to a 26-21 lead on Morris in the third quarter with a seven-point scoring spurt. Included was one three-pointer. In overtime, her three-pointer with 10 seconds left pulled the Foxes within one.
Key Stats: Yorkville made 16-of-38 shots, including five three-pointers. Morris was 11-of-25 from the field. However, due to Yorkville fouls, Morris managed to hit 17-of-27 free throws, while the Foxes hit went 0-for-8 at the line.

Quotable: “Zero-for-eight free throws,” Yorkville coach Luke Engelhardt said. “When you go into overtime and you’ve missed eight free throws and you haven’t made any in regulation … it’s tough, especially when some of those are one-on-ones. It’s tough when you miss that many free throws.”
Team records: Yorkville, 12-12, 2-8 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference East Division. Morris, 17-10, 6-4.
What’s next: Yorkville begins its regional competition at IMSA next Tuesday at 8:10 p.m. against Rosary. Morris begins regional competition at home on Monday at 6 p.m. against LaSalle-Peru.
