Extra Points: Height a Huge Help for Foxes

Yorkville's tall players create a big advantage.

With two 6-foot-6-inch starters on the team, the Foxes often have several inches on their opponents.

In Friday night’s game against Sycamore, the height advantage lead to nearly a dozen rebounds from Yorkville’s tallest three players alone: Six-foot-six-inch Ryan Herron with five rebounds, 6-6 Josh Williams with two rebounds and 6-4 Jordan Jones with four.

Yorkville coach Jerry Farber said they usually use their height against shorter opponents, but this game it didn’t work as well.

“Well, we tried to go inside to start the game, but we didn’t do a very good job with it,” Farber said. “We missed a lot of easy shots the first half. Our big guys just weren’t strong in there.

"Second half, we got more people involved, we got the running game going a little bit. Our big guys ran the floor pretty good with put-backs.”

While the “big guys” weren’t a strong as he would like on offense, totaling 21 points together, their defensive positioning left Sycamore helpless inside and forced the Spartans to shoot from far away. They ended up shooting four three-point baskets, for 12 of their 34 points.

With nine points, Josh Williams was one of the Foxes’ top scorers Friday night. He says the team's height has helped all season.

“We just use it to our advantage,” Williams said. “That’s what we’ve got, so we use it.”
