Yorkville Middle School Student Wins Alcohol Awareness Month Poster Contest

Jihad Muhammad, a 8th grade student at Yorkville Middle School, was an Individual School Winner.

The following release was issued by the Illinois Churches in Action:

Illinois Churches In Action is pleased to announce the winners of their annual statewide Alcohol Awareness Month Poster Contest for students in Grades 6-12.

The theme was “Don’t Drink Drugs, Alcohol is a Drug”.  All entries were to illustrate the value of not drinking. The winning posters were displayed at the State Capitol in Springfield.  Copies of the winning entries were sent to the schools for display during the month of May. 

Jihad Muhammad, a 8th grade student at Yorkville Middle School, was an Individual School Winner.  She received a Certificate of Achievement, gift certificate, and sports bag. 

Heather Garcia, Youth Prevention Director at Illinois Churches In Action, said, “Alcohol is the most widely used drug among youth.  We appreciate the efforts of these students in presenting a clear message about the “no use” of alcohol for youth in Illinois.” 

Illinois Churches In Action is an affiliate of Illinois Church Action on Alcohol and Addiction Problems.  This statewide organization is based in Springfield and works with schools, churches, and community groups to prevent problems of alcohol, other drugs, and gambling.
