Extreme Cold: Yorkville Schools, Others Closed Monday

Plus other area closings.

It's official: it's really cold. 

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Monday for Yorkville and much of the Chicago area, according to the National Weather Service. 

The National Weather Service says there may be some additional snow also this evening, with widespread blowing snow after midnight and gusts of up to 25 mph. Wind chill values could reach as low as -24.

The winds will also drive down wind chills and a wind chill warning will be in effect from 3 a.m. Monday through 9 a.m. Wednesday. Wind chill values could be between -35 to -45 degrees during this period. By Monday night, wind chills could drop as low as -50 degrees in the Chicago area, according to AccuWeather.

Yorkville School District 115 has announced via Emergency Center Closings that school will be cancelled on Monday, Jan. 27.

"Due to the severe temperatures and wind chill forecasted for Monday, Yorkville CUSD 115 is canceling ALL classes, athletics and activities," the district wrote on their Facebook

Information regarding Tuesday's status will be announced Monday afternoon. 

Cross Lutheran School and Parkview Christian Academy in Yorkville has also been cancelled.

Other area closings on Monday, Jan. 27 include:

  • Oswego Senior Center
  • Kendall Area Transit will only be providing restricted dial-a-ride service on Monday. Park and ride services will operate as scheduled. 
  • All Waubonsee Community College classes are cancelled. 
  • Yorkville American Legion Post 489
  • Plainfield School District 202
  • Oswego School District 308
