YHS Wind Ensemble Clinches SuperState Repeat

The ensemble is invited to the 2013 festival after ranking best in its division Saturday.

wind ensemble will be headed back to Champaign next year for the prestigious Illinois SuperState Concert Band Festival, according to the YHS band website.

This year's 42-piece ensemble earned the Honor Band award for having the best performance among the Class AA (schools with 801 to 1,600 students) group. That means the wind ensemble will be invited to next year's festival without needing to audition, according to the YHS band website.

The wind ensemble performed Saturday in the Foellinger Great Hall at the Krannert Center for Performing Arts in Urbana.

, Band Director Victor Anderson emphasized the caliber of the festival. The audition process involved hiring a recording engineer. Then, the ensemble met three times outside school, brought in clinicians and added a few more percussionists to prepare.

At Super State, college music professors and other high school band directors – who Anderson said are “some of the harshest critics in the state” - will provide feedback. Click here to read what they said.

This is an awesome achievement and is confirmation that the CUSD #115 (Yorkville Schools) Music Dept. has in fact arrived as one of the best public school music programs in the State of Illinois. This was only done by investing in Yorkville's Music Kids, nurturing and encouraging them, year by year, then raising that bar for the next year. Year by year, the CUSD #115 Yorkville Music Dept. has progressed and become better with even more numerous, high-caliber, accomplished vocalist performers and musicians choosing to be the best they can. Victor Anderson and the CUSD #115 Music Staff have many reasons to now be very proud and we parents need to say “Congratulations” and “Thanks” to all those special teachers and these mentors, as they do so much for the special and hardworking kids that commit to practice, practice and practice at an early age.
