The Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s Came to Life for YHS Students

Students in U.S. history and government classes were able to hear the firsthand account.

Yorkville High School students recently had a chance to hear, firsthand, what it was like to work alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement.

Husband and wife, Loy and Linda Williams, spoke of their involvement in the critical events in our nation's history.

Nearly all YHS juniors and seniors from U.S. History, AP U.S. History and Government classes heard the firsthand account.

"It was great for our classes to have a primary source come in and share their experiences with the class and talk about the difference in culture from then to now," said YHS teacher, Dan McGuire.

Having just completed their unit on Reconstruction and Civil Rights, U.S., history teachers were thrilled to offer students this unique account of the past.
