Simple Machine Exhibit at Yorkville Intermediate School a Success

Fourth grade students constructed small machines based on everyday uses.

On Tuesday, March 19, fourth graders at Yorkville Intermediate School hosted a simple machines exhibit in the YIS library.

The student-constructed wedges, wheels and axles, levers, screws, inclined planes and gears were on display. Parents and community members visited the school to view the presentations and voted for their favorite.

Students studied, researched and thoughtfully constructed their own small machine based on information they learned in Ms. Marker's classroom. Groups worked to gather information about how small machines worked and everyday uses.

Then, they collaborated to build their own model. One group designed a pulley system for a mock garage. Another put together an elaborate roller coaster using wheels and axles. All of the exhibits showcased student learning and independent thinking.

Special thanks to Yorkville 115 for the photos and information
