Eight music students excelled at a competition last month.

A special thanks to Megan Jacobs, Yorkville District 115 communications, for providing the following news release and photograph.

Eight music students at Yorkville Middle School were recently honored by the IMEA (Illinois Music Educators Association) for their excellent performance during a competition held last month.

Over 1,000 students from 62 different middle schools participated in the auditions, which were held at Yorkville Middle School on September 29th. The winning students prepared audition pieces and performed before judges. Each of these students will represent Yorkville at the IMEA District IX Junior Festival, which will be held at Neuqua Valley High School on Saturday, November 3rd.

The students will spend the day with other talented young musicians from many neighboring school districts rehearsing with the Honors Band, Choir, or Orchestra; each ensemble will be comprised of roughly 100 students. With only four or five hours of rehearsal together that day under the direction of a guest director, they will then perform a concert showcasing their hard work to cap off the festival.
