'Katwalk for Kelsie' set for Friday night.

Proceeds will go to research for hereditary angioedema, a disease afflicting a Yorkville High School student.

A fundraiser to support a Yorkville High School student's battle with hereditary angioedema, HAE, is set for Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Yorkville High School cafeteria.

Called "Katwalk for Kelsie," the benefit will raise money for HAE research. HAE is a rare and potentially life threatening disease of the immune system, that affects approximately one in 50,000 people world wide. HAE causes attacks of spontaneous swelling that are extremely painful and disfiguring.

The YHS student afflicted with HAE was first afflicted with the disease in 2006, but wasn't diagnosed until 2011, when she was 14-years-old. Her "angioedema" primarily impacts her face and abdomen.

FDA-approved medications for treating the symptoms of HAE have only become available in the U.S. since 2008.

Tickets for Friday night's event are $3 for students and $5 for adults. There will also be a Mr. and Mrs. Foxy contest for a prize of $100.
