D115 Board Approves Leave for YHS Wrestling Coach

Fornell installed as interim coach; additional personnel changes passed without discussion.

board members voted unanimously Monday to approve a one-year leave of absence for wrestling coach Shane Darnell. 

The district released a press release Tuesday to announce the move. In the release, Darnell said he was taking the leave of absence for “family reasons.”

“My family and I appreciate the support and prayers of this community and the school district,” Darnell said in the release.

The board also voted 7-0 Monday in favor of installing Joe Fornell as the high school’s interim varsity wrestling coach.

“I am looking forward to continuing the great legacy that Coach Darnell has established in the Yorkville wrestling program,” Fornell said, according to the press release.

Fornell’s hiring and Darnell’s leave of absence were just two of a handful of sports-related personnel moves the board voted on Monday.

The resignations of Yorkville High School varsity cheerleading coach Megan Musser and high school boys tennis coach Ryan Wagner were approved without discussion. So was the hiring of new Yorkville Middle School assistant football coach David Zimmerman.

The board also voted unanimously to approve 19 additional new hires for the 2011-2012 school year.

  • Debbie Nelson (Autumn Creek Elementary School nurse)

  • Jessica Brooks (Yorkville Intermediate School fifth grade)
  • Jeanne Deichmueller (YMS reading)
  • Kathryn D. Sover (Grande Reserve Elementary School fourth grade)
  • David Zimmerman (high school junior class sponsor)
  • Leon Pierce (high school campus monitor)
  • Melissa R. Krant (Yorkville Grade School first grade)
  • Katherine L. Strauss (Bristol Grade School second grade)
  • Kathleen M. Strauss (Circle Center Grade School first grade)
  • Terri Blume (YGS nurse)
  • Brittany Cerevic (BBES sixth grade)
  • Kristen M. Serio (BBES second grade)
  • Aryn Bylsma (BBES first grade)
  • Ana Romero (BBES bilingual kindergarten)
  • Rachel Panattoni (YMS speech pathologist)

Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Frank Bogner said the district could make one more hire soon.

The resignations of Lori James, Christel Gorman, Tracy Darnell and Cheryl Beasley, and the planned retirements of Gerry Romack (at the end of the 2013-2014 school year) and Dennis Stiegleiter were also accepted without discussion.
