Brief: D115 Finances Rank High

The state graded Yorkville's school district at 3.8 out of 4 for the 2009-2010 school year.

Yorkville Community Unit School earned high marks on a state financial profile, Superintendent Scott Wakeley announced at Monday's school board meeting.

The Illinois State Board of Education’s 2011 School District Financial Profile gave District 115 Financial Recognition, the highest category of financial strength among Illinois schools for the 2009-2010 school year. The ISBE rates schools on a 4-point scale, taking into account factors like revenue ratio, days the district could operate using only cash on hand and available short- and long-term borrowing.

District 115 scored a 3.8, placing it well above the 3.54 needed for Financial Recognition. This is the third consecutive year that the district has earned the honor.

“That was the goal,” Wakeley said. “We know we’re going to have to continue … It takes a team effort.”

Yorkville was one of 604 districts to earn Financial Recognition. Of the districts earning less than a 3.54, the ISBE designated 188 for review, 52 for early warning and placed 24 on a watch list indicating those districts are at a high risk for failure.
