Autumn Creek Elementary to Collect Donations for William Furukawa

Visitation for 11-year-old who died after falling from a moving vehicle is Saturday.

in Yorkville will open next Thursday to collect donations for an 11-year-old student who died Sunday after falling from a moving vehicle.

William "Gene" Furukawa fell from the rear passenger window of an SUV driven by his father's fiancee while it traveled slowly down Rickard Drive about 2 p.m. Saturday, according to a release. After falling to the pavement, William was rushed to Rush-Copley Medical Center and then transferred to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead at about 9 p.m. Sunday.

Autumn Creek Elementary School principal David Ascolani reached out of Furukawa's father.

"I did ask Mr. Furukawa if there is anything we can do to help him during this very difficult and sad time," Ascolani said in an e-mail. "Mr. Furukawa shared he needs help with the cost of the services."

Autumn Creek Elementary School will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 21, to collect donations.
