Golinski said meeting in a park might seem a little unorthodox but it serves several purposes.

“First and foremost, it shows the city council's commitment to our and our citizens by being accessible at River Night to talk about issues with residents and members of our business community,” Golinski said in an e-mail.

“We would like to solicit feedback from the community on the Route 47 bike trail 'quagmire' and inform people of some of our options to cut costs in other areas of the project.”

Golinski said he also plans to tell residents several public officials and entities – State Rep. Kay Hatcher, the county, the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Army Corps of Engineers and the city – are collaborating to rebuild the River Road bridge. The bridge was closed to traffic about three weeks ago after officials determined a crack in its western support is worsening.
