Route 47 Construction Will Start Sometime This Week

Hill and concrete retaining wall near Old Courthouse may see some work later this week and traffic could be rerouted.

Last week we updated you that construction on Route 47 through Yorkville would be beginning the week of April 29.

Apparently the lack of construction cones and rerouted traffic has caused some to wonder where exactly this construction is.

City administrator Bart Olson told the Beacon that local officials took that start date to mean within the week of April 29, not necessarily a Monday start.

After traffic is rerouted, IDOT expects to take out the concrete retaining wall and hillside near the Old Courthouse and then work with the railroad company to install temporary railroad signals, Olson told the Beacon.

Olson told the Beacon he is confident that work will start this week. “I actually expect we will see them cutting into the hill (and retaining wall) yet this week,” he said.
