Route 47 Construction Updates and Their Impact to You

AT&T will be doing utility work north of the river starting on May 1 and construction beginning again.

If you travel on Route 47 for your daily commute, you might want to soon plan for a longer day stuck in the car.

Route 47 will be undergoing  more constrution and utility work starting in the last week of April and the impacts will include parking changes, one-lane closures and no more left-turns on some streets.

The following timeline was provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) for the Route 47 constuction project for April and May updates. Keep it in mind as you plan your daily commute and what it means for you.

AT&T

  • Utility work resumes north of river on May 1, 2013
  • Expected to be completed on September 1, 2013, weather permitting

Contractor

  • Begins construction work; last week of April into first week of May
  • Work will be south of the river until after September 1, 2013
  • Work in 2013 will be mostly underground—storm sewer installations, water and sewer main crossings
  • The first week in May the retaining wall on the west side of the road will be removed, weather permitting

Impact to motorists

  • Emphasis on storm sewer installation south of the river to IL 71 this construction season
  • Crossroad pipe installations will be done at night
  • Traffic south of the river will be relocated onto  temporary pavements constructed last autumn
  • On-street parking through the commercial district downtown will be eliminated
  • Some operations will require short term lane closures controlled by flagger
  • Signs prohibiting left turns will be posted, and violators will be ticketed
  • North of the river there will be lane closures and driveways will be blocked as AT&T digs trenches for new conduit placement; Questions regarding AT&T conduit trenching should be directed to customer service at AT&T
  • As soon as AT&T places their conduit, the contractor can begin work north of the river
