River Road Bridge Could Open This Summer

The city of Yorkville is awaiting a detailed construction schedule.

The long delayed River Road Bridge construction project may come to an end as early as the beginning of July, according to a city official.

"Staff did estimate at last month’s Public Works Committee that the bridge could be open by July 1 if all else goes smoothly," said city administrator Bart Olson in an email. "However, that’s our estimate, not the contractor’s."

The bridge, which shared an abutment with the Blackberry Creek dam, was closed in 2011 after officials noticed a crack in the abutment worsening. They had planned to remove the dam, replace the bridge and restore traffic by October of 2012.

That deadline wasn't met due to delays moving electrical equipment.
